In honor of the birthday of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk—the first openly-gay elected official in the United States, and an opponent of the sit/lie law in the 1970s—we’ll be holding a Sidewalks Are for People day on Sunday, May 22.

This will be the first ever multi-city Sidewalks Are for People! Cynical politicians have shared bad ideas from city to city for decades. In the past couple months, there have been rumblings for a sit/lie law in Berkeley in imitation of San Francisco’s law. On May 22, there will be solidarity actions between San Francisco and Berkeley.
